About the Conference Program
When considering which session to attend be aware that most sessions will address more than one strand so be sure to look at the full descriptions.
Cookies and Conversations on Thursday are designed to give attendees the opportunity to network with others who have similar job responsibilities. You may choose any of the sessions to attend, so if you are more interested in learning from a different group, you are welcome.
If you have questions about the program of events, please contact by email at Pat Bone or by phone (785) 296-2303.
The research on Building Thinking Classrooms shows that when students work on thinking tasks in random groups on a vertical whiteboard, they are capable of co-creating incredible amounts of mathematical meaning and collective knowing-and-doing. In this session, participants will look at the Thinking Classroom practices that help students move this collective knowing-and-doing into individual knowing-and-doing while, at the same time, beginning to take responsibility for their own learning. These practices support note-making and individual work. They will intertwine with, and make extensive references to, the recently published book, Building Thinking Classrooms (Grades K-12): 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning.
This networking/discussion-based presentation shares Kansas State University-College of Education's efforts in creating a sustainable induction lab model that provides ongoing professional learning for their teacher candidates, spanning preservice teachers’ clinical experiences through their first two years of teaching in partnering districts. We propose a conceptual framework that outlines the key components of the induction lab model, and is designed to support the co-construction process with school districts and key stakeholders.
