Teacher-Leader Consultant (TLC) for KSDE's Dyslexia/Early Literacy Team.
Director of Student Learning/Assistant Superintendent for USD 487 (PreK-12), responsible for overseeing Title and At-Risk Programs; Curriculum & Instruction; MTSS for Social-Emotional-Behavior/Math/Reading; Assessment; CTE/Pathways; Professional Development; and the Mentoring Program for the district.
Melissa Brunner is currently in her 6th year as the Director of Student Learning for Herington USD 487, but also worked as a PreK-12 school-based speech language pathologist for 15 years, evaluating, diagnosing, and treating children with speech-language disabilities. She holds a master’s degree in speech-language pathology as well as a master’s degree in K-12 building and district administration, in addition to her SLP license and certification through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Melissa is passionate about the link between language and literacy, articulation, phonology, and language-based communication disorders, DLD & Dyslexia, as well as providing teachers the tools to structure language-enriched classrooms.
